Music Review(Tamil): Goli Soda2

Music Review(Tamil): Goli Soda2
Music Composer: Achu Rajamani

Pondatee, seems to be the kind of music churned out by Leon James and the peppy breezy tune sung by the composer Achu itself. The guitar-laden track is listenable and the arrangements are adorned by Ranjith's Sitar in the first interlude. Though Mani Amuthavan's lyrics sound force fitted, Achu's singing and Buoyant tune make this one listenable.Kelambu is the hackneyed anthemic rousing grungy track with the hardly memorable tune and apart from Steve's effectual guitar score, the track has little to offer. Deepak, Mahalingam, Jitin Raj and Sreeraj deliver fine within the limited scope of the tune. The track relies largely on the punchy percussions and few nifty guitar solos.Yaaro Vandhu is another track sung by the composer itself and the short melancholy track fails to stick to the listeners. The track is mostly situational one and gains a lot from the pensive lyrics.

Kannamma is on the lines of Pondatee where the breezy tone of the song and the stylish rendition by the string of singers lead by Praveen and Nishitha Menon. The interludes with the iPad synth are extremely catchy stuff which flows in tandem with the overall tone of the song. Achu ends the soundtrack with the racy theme track led by effectual Gautham Vasudev Menon's voice over. The theme track is loaded with the techno synthesised sounds which gives the haunting soundscape for the thriller.

Verdict: Golisoda 2 is definitely better soundtrack than it's prequel but the album lacks instant catchy songs. despite occasional brilliance from the talented composer.

My Rating:7/10

Pick of the Album: Kannamma, Pondattee

P.S You can listen to the songs in Saavn.

Music Review (Tamil): Urumeen

Music Review (Tamil): Urumeen
Music Composer:Achu

Achu owns Baby Baby from start till end with his captivating arrangements dominated by guitar riffs whereas the deja vu feel in the tune is a minor grouse even though it's engaging to the  large extent till it last. Mani Amudhavan's funny lyrics makes this song listenable and tune is cakewalk for Anthony Daasan. Hey Umayaal is short breezing melody and Vijay Yesudas rendition is spot on. Achu's arrangements augment the tone of the song well especially brilliant usage of mandolin and strings rule the background throughout the song. Lyrics by Kavin are simple and appealing. Hey Umayaal comes with unplugged version comes with unplugged version builds on the Piano base and Kavya Ajit's humming is an additional asset to the soundtrack. Achu tweaked the charanam portions a little and makes this more charming and lovable than the original version. String portions in the background is kept intact as in the original one. Siru Nadai takes the listener back to En Uyire from Achu's wonderful soundtrack Maalai Pozhudin Mayakathiley. Karthik- Achu's combo once again creates magic with Siru Nadai and this one too is absolute gem from the composer. Karthik's vocals are well complemented by minimal orchestration backed by strings and violin in the first interlude is a pure bliss. Only grouse is song is just three and half minutes long. Siru Nadai's reprise version has piano as a base and Veena replaces the violin in the first interlude. Roshini Suresh's nuanced singing is commendable and enjoyable too. Overall Achu retains the highly listenable factor in the Reprise version also but this one ranks lower compared to the original version. After a slew of melodies in the soundtrack, Yaadhum oorae takes an ominous grungy ride with an excellent set of vocals from Guna, Rohan Prakash and Kamalaja Rajagopal. Achu's arrangements are simple and predictable with Guitars and sporadic discordant percussions dominate the track.

Verdict: Achu returns to form after a brief hiatus in Tamil and Urumeen proves once again that Achu is one of the promising composers  to look out for.

My Rating:7.5/10

Pick of the Album: Siru Nadai (both versions), Hey Umayaal, Baby Baby

Music Review (Telugu): Gaddam Gang

Music Review (Telugu): Gaddam Gang
Music Review: Achu

My dear sweety, is an engaging jazzy piece with interesting use of trumpets cum drums led orchestration especially second interlude. The vocals by Achu, mix of funky and breezy rendition aids well the tune. Vathava vadhantava, is shoddy compared to  Come na come from Soodhu Kavvum however sprightly rendition by the Tamil composer saves this song from laborious listen. Kasu Cashu dubbu, telugu equivalent of Kasu Panam from Soodhu kavvum and in this song Achu manages to hold the listener with catchy choli ke peeche kya hey hook and funny lyrics accentuates the further craziness of the song. Achu also uses the background sounds from the original. Achu returns to another jazzy fusion in Mama douser's Telugu version Chirigi Chattayindhi. Both tune and M M Manasi voice along with jazz genred instruments work well in tandem results in another eccentric song. Gaddam Gang theme is energetic on its own way but when compared to splendid Tamil version theme this one is slight disappointment.

Verdict: Achu considerably did well and came out with tunes with enough wackiness but still soodhu Kavvum tunes are better.Comparisons are inevitable in remakes and that too with standards set by Santosh Narayanan.

My rating:7.5/10

Pick of the Album: My dear Sweety, Kasu Cashu dubbu, Chirigi Chattayindhi
