Music Review (Tamil) : Ammani

Music Review (Tamil) : Ammani
Music Composer: K

Life E Machan is the rollicking fun song with the catchy familiar tune and the Mukesh's vocal is brimmed with right swag while K filled the backgrounds with engaging brass kuthu. In the other version of the song, the arrangements are kept intact with slight modification in lyrics. K throws lovely violin solos in the pleasing Rotora Padhayile while Gaana Bala's retro styled rendition flows seamlessly along with the violin pieces. The soundtrack's undeniable highlight is Vaikom Vijayalakshmi's brilliant semi-classical song Mazhai Ingillaye where K infuses engaging orchestration dominated by violins, Morsing and soothing Jal tarang.

Verdict: K once again delivers highly engaging short soundtrack with Mazhai Ingillaye stands out to be an undeniable winner.

My Rating:7.5/10

Music Review (Malayalam): Kammatipaadam

Music Review (Malayalam): Kammatipaadam
Music Composer: John P Varkey, K, Vinayakan

John P Varkey's Para Para has sonorous ambient soundscape with gloomy vibe attached to it and incredible way the song transcends from lethargic folk tune to soaring second half is absolutely stunning. Composer incorporated some timely idakka sounds in a brilliant way. The song's vocal credits should mainly go for the lovely chorus portions bolstering Anoop Mohandas. In Chingamaasathile, Varkey builds the beautiful languorous folk tune with minimal guitar riffs laden track played by the composer itself and rendered effectually by once again Anoop Mohandas. K returns to Rajeev Ravi's movie after winsome Malayalam debut in Annayum Rasoolum. Kaathirunna Pakshi Njan is another sweet-sounding melody rides mainly on the ever-reliable Karthik who aces both singing as well as with whistles while K kept the arrangements simple with another composer Varkey takes the lead with uber cool guitar strums. Puzhu Pulikal's tune sounds more like conversation between a man and boy but Vinayakan's brilliant arrangements with tinge of somber vibe mainly due to Janardhan's udukku built over the simple tune  and the highlight of this track is undeniably Francis Xavier's blissful violin in the interludes.

Verdict: Rajeev Ravi's association with multi-composer for Kammatipaadam turns out to be appealing one akin to his debut movie soundtrack.

My rating:8/10

Pick of the Album: All songs, nevertheless only four.

Music Review (Tamil) - 49-O

Music Review (Tamil) - 49-O
Music Composer: K

In Amma Pole, K takes the Imman's recent soundscape for the rural song which is laden with rhythmic thumping percussions, occasional captivating string sounds in the interludes. Jayamoorthy's rustic vocals are apt for the Yugabarathi's simple and well-written lyrics about the importance of rain to the farmers.

Aruvava Kannu Rendum starts with brilliant mandolin prelude and Abhay Jodhpurkar takes over the pleasant ear-warming melody which is engaging till it lasts. K spruces up the orchestration with Ghatam, Kanjira and other assorted sounds to bring out the feel of the song.K churns out brilliant inspirational song in Innum Ethanai Kaalam Varai where both Thenisai Chellapa hoarse vocals and orchestration by K complements each other very well. Particularly loved the K's arrangements with the racy mix of string sections, parade like brass cum drum sounds interspersed with haunting flute bits in tandem with the composer's style. Yugabarathi’s lyrics deserves special mention. Easily this one is best of the album.Vote Podunga is a quirky song in Hariharasudhan vocals with native folk instruments interspersed with amusing satirical speeches and Yugabarathi's funny as well as thought provoking lyrics. Tune by K is rather conventional which may work well with visuals and placement of the song in the movie.

Verdict: K delivers quite a short and functional rural thematic soundtrack after an impressive Kirumi for Goundamani's comeback movie.

My rating: 7.25/10

Music Review (Tamil): Kirumi

Music Review (Tamil): Kirumi
Music Composer: K

OC soru is frolic, amusing mostly due to lyrics and raw vocals of Gaana Bala while K balances the arrangements with local kuthu templated percussion which aids well the proceedings. Naanal Poovai is the pièce de résistance in the soundtrack where everything works beautifully especially the way the frothy voice of Janani S V is interspersed with composer's charming and pleasant vocals. Wish composer will sing more songs too.  Naa Parakka has brilliant usage of guitar and harmonica while G V Prakash handles the rock'ish tune quite effortlessly and guitar strums towards the end are heady. Lyrics by GanaKaravel portraying the nature of  protagonist complements well with rock arrangements. Vaal Veesum country styled arrangements and Gaana Bala reminds the setting of Kakidha Kappal from Madras but K marks his presence with the brilliant concoction of whistles, violin, trumpets, accordion and other sounds. Boom Boom Boodham starts off like aayiram sooriyan from Maryan but the effect is mitigated greatly by Yazin Nizar's effortless singing and enticing guitar-drum combination throughout the song. K ends the soundtrack with dark gloomy Orayiram Ottaigal and once again composer's singing along with screeching guitars works more than the tune.

Verdict: Kirumi is K's best soundtrack in recent times but still Annayum Rasoolum remains my favourite from this talented composer.

My rating: 8/10

Music Review (Tamil) : Kaadu

Music Review (Tamil) : Kaadu
Music Composer: K

Ettu thikkum, energetic song rides mainly on thumping percussion throughout the song sung with enough spirit by Anand Aravindhakshan. Composer K's penchant for strings are evident in the orchestration. Onna pathi, a laid back relaxed tune handled by Haricharan with his exquisite singing and composer garnished the song with flute and motley of soothing sounds to set the right mood for the song. Oororam folkish song about village people by Anitha Karthikeyan and Jayamurthy in their respective versions is a passable run of the mill tune filled with austere sounds confined to the genre of the song. Uchi Malai Kaadu too folky tune by Maghizhini Manimaraan comparatively better than previous songs in the same genre because of the enticing sounds throughout the song and deftly handled interludes for the folk song. Uchi Malai kadu comes in another version with same orchestration except for the lead vocals by Vaikom Vijayalakshmi is equally good. Uyire, best song in the soundtrack  is a pleasing, neatly arranged tune by K starts with beautiful string section and interludes. Madhu Iyer did a splendid job with her vocals.

Verdict: Composer K delivers another album similar to Mahabalipuram where melodies stand apart among the other songs.

Pick of the Album: Uyire, Onna pathi, Uchi Malai Kaadu
